I had the same problems last year as you. Actually, the engine would cut out at random times, ( not good when on the slip roads to roundabouts!) and wouldn't start for 10 minutes or so.
After changing the fuel pump, and the injector wiring loom due to seal failure allowing oil to creep into the ECM connector I thought it cured the problem.
It turned out to be the air bleed valve was blocked, it wouldn't allow air to vent back to the tank.
I got a replacement bleed valve from John Craddock and there's been no problems starting and running the engine since.
If you do decide to replace it, it's in the outer rear hose to the fuel filter, and be very careful as the threads will most likely be corroded and stiff, very easy to break off.

LandRover Discovery 2 - Air In Fuel

Post by OXO » Mon Aug 14, 2023 6:00 pm

Hi,
I have a 2004 Landrover discovery 2 and when the ignition is turned on, the main fuel pump makes a noise and it sounds like there is air within the fuel lines. The discovery will not start now and will only start if a purge on the fuel line is completed everytime the discovery stops. I have replaced the main pump, a new filter and housing, but still has problem with fuel starvation. The injector loom was replaced about 6 months ago and at the same time had the issue of oil in the red plug with a repair to the ECU and fuel regulator, but had been running until this issue happened about two weeks ago. Any help would be grateful.
