Regarding the recent letter in LROI about Discovery door lock springs...

This is now being handled by Horness Spencer (editor of Discourse, the club magazine). Any enquiries regarding said springs should be emailed to him direct, on doc@horness.co.uk.

If you have any questions about the springs, or installation thereof, please post below!

Note - membership of the club is NOT a prerequisite to purchasing a set of these springs

If you are still having problems it could be the door locking solenoid thats knackered.
maplins electronics do a universal replacement, that is easy enough to fit.
have a look here.

In case you were wondering...

YD78K - this is the actuator with 5 wires which is used in the driver's door; it's effectively the 'master', as the alarm/central locking unit sends a signal to this actuator to lock or unlock, and it passes the signal along to the rest of the actuators in the vehicle.

YD79L - this is a 2-wire actuator which is used in all doors apart from the driver's door.

As for the Discovery Series 2, I'm not aware of anyone fitting these actuators to one of those, and I'm not even sure whether the driver's door is a 5-wire or 2-wire - if you want to try it, please let us know how you get on!

Springs and locks

Sorry but I have come to this thread rather late.
My 97 Discovery has a locking problem in that the tailgate and one of the rear doors don't unlock correctly. The button comes up partway but when you try an use the door handle it goes back down again. The other read door seems to be suffering the same problem but only intermittently. Have just replaced the actuator in the tailgate but seems to have made no difference. Am I suffering from the 'infamous' spring problem or could there be something else that I should check ?
Any help very much appreciated.

has anyone had a reply yet about the door lock springs? I have emailed a few times now and not even had a reply.

I would prefer a negative reply to no reply, as then that means at least I can then go to the main dealer to spend ?100 on a couple of complete new door locks.

Hi

Really sorry about the lack of reply, I have a number of emails to respond to and have been so busy these last couple of weeks with work, family and Discourse, this is one of the first times I've had to check the forum!

RE: The Door Lock Springs.
I am waiting for the manufacturer to get 100 of each out to me, which should be in the next couple of days.

I will reply to all the emails through the course of this week, and give you an update.

Many thanks
Horness.

okay

Yep and he wants ?7.50 per spring + p&p.

That makes DOC good value, just like being a member. =D>

got my springs, thanks.

last night stripped the rear doors down and fitted the springs, and they work great. only one minor point... the LH and RH appeared to be mixed up wrong... luckily I had one existing correct lock so could match it up. Anyway, thanks again, I can now get my Thatcham1 certificate done. It was worth the wait rather than letting the EVIL MAIN DEALERS take my hard earnt money......
