JAGUAR LAND ROVER TO TAKE ON OVER 40 APPRENTICES

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 2 April 2009 – Jaguar Land Rover continues its commitment to invest in the future of the automotive industry and the engineering talent of tomorrow with another recruitment programme offering over 40 Advanced Apprenticeships to enthusiastic 16+ year olds wanting a career within the automotive industry.

The apprenticeships consist of a 36-48 month programme, with the initial period at college. During this time they would earn an NVQ2 in Performing Engineering Operations, an NVQ3 in the chosen trade pathway and a Technical Certificate, as well as developing wider key skills.

Des Thurlby, Human Resources Director, Jaguar Land Rover, said: "Jaguar Land Rover is committed to the training and development of a world class workforce and the Advanced Apprenticeship programme is another important step in ensuring a future generation of engineering talent to drive the business forward."

Part of an apprentice's role with Jaguar Land Rover involves visiting local schools to promote apprenticeships in general to pupils. Other initiatives taken by the company to promote the exciting world of the automotive industry to youngsters include a 'Sons and Daughters at Work' day. On 11th March, employees' children aged between 11 and 18, were invited to the Gaydon Design and Engineering Centre and Solihull factory to shadow their parents in their field of work and were given careers advice and a tour of the facilities to provide a better understanding of possible career opportunities.

The two brands are jointly investing £800m to develop new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions from their vehicles – investment additional to all other development work. Jaguar Land Rover is looking for bright, forward thinking apprentices who will eventually help to develop these future technologies.

At the end of the initial training period, apprentices will start work at Castle Bromwich, Gaydon, Halewood, Solihull or Whitley, continuing studies on a day-to-day basis, with the opportunity to complete a City & Guilds, HNC, or foundation degree, depending on business needs.

The application process is open until 5th May 2009. Candidates must have, or expect to gain, five GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above (including Maths, English Language and a core Science). Applications from all sections of the community are welcomed in order to attract the very best talent available. Find out more by logging on to www.jaguarlandrovercareers.com.
